To report the mortality of an intensive care unit dedicated to COVID-19patients and describe the factors associated with mortality. We conducteda retrospective, observational study with the objective of defining the clinicalcharac-teristics, epidemiology and factors associated with death in intensive care unit ofthese patients We reviewed the charts and exams of 64 patients with confirmeddiagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 infection in our intensive care unit (ICU) from March 20 toMay 20, 2021. In our center, 23 patients died during hospitalization, and 41were discharged from the ICU. Associated with mortality, we found, after analysis, needfor mechanical ventilation, pneumothorax and acute renal failure as the main riskfactors. The use of a ventilatory support with a helmet was potentially protective in theneed of invasive ventilation and death. Despite several limitations, ourstudy was able to demonstrate a num-ber of clinical and laboratory factors associatedwith death in the ICU from COVID-19, consistent with international and multicentercase series.
