Abstract

The current work aimed to analyze the profile of patients and identify the factors associated wuth the abandonment of tuberculosis treatment in individuals monitored in the Basic Health Units (BHU) of Regional II in the city of Fortaleza\CE by a descriptive, analytical, cross-sectional, retrospective and quantitative study made in city of Fortaleza\CE with patients from the Basic Health Units contained in Regional II on the data obtained in the Book Registration of patients and Monitoring of Treatment of Tuberculosis cases. A descriptive-analytical, retrospective study with a quantitative approach was carried out based on the data registered between the years 2016 and 2018, with a total of 522 patients, considering the interruption of the use of medication for 30 years as an abandonment of tuberculosis treatment days or more. The factors that are most related to treatment cessations are alcoholism, smoking, use of illicit drugs, long treatment time, reduction of symptoms after the start of medication and treatment modality applied, with a high rate of abandonment (30,77%), much higher than that recommended by the Ministry of Health, which was 5%. Therefore, it is important that actions are implemented to prevent these high rates of treatment withdrawal, especially in groups at high risk for abandonment, as the team of health professionals responsible for this monitoring must focus on continuos care approaches that are more interactive and humanized, ensuring patient compliance with treatment.
